Here are some questions commonly asked about our services:
How much does it cost?
Every pet is unique. We take into consideration skin and coat condition, temperament, weight and height for all breeds. Our prices reflect the amount of time it takes to complete the service. On average our services run $70/hour and most baths take 30-60 minutes and full service pet styling takes anywhere from 1-3 hours.
Do you charge extra for fleas?
We do not charge extra for flea baths, however we will only use flea shampoo if we see fleas. This is not a preventive or "dip". We use a natural flea shampoo along with a deep conditioning rinse and completely disinfect the shop afterwards. We encourage pet owners to speak with their vet about a flea control program that works for their family.
Do you charge extra for de-matting?
Because we charge hourly for all of our services, it's built into the cost. We advise clients before starting on the best process for their pet. Sometimes we are able to save hair and other times we have to shave underneath the matting. We don't believe in dog-torture so we will only de-mat if the dog tolerates the process. Your dog's comfort and safety are priority!
Do you groom cats?
Yes! We offer cat baths as well as haircuts. We are able to customize a hairstyle for you and your pet's needs. Need just the belly shaved? We can do that. Nail trims? Included with all baths and haircuts, and available as a quick appointment in between grooming.
Do you Hand Strip?
Caitlyn actually began grooming by Hand Stripping her Welsh Terrier Guinness. Hand stripping can be done on a plethora of dogs and allows the coat to regenerate new hair growth and keep a hard wire coat. Hand Stripping is an hourly service that can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours depending on the breed. We are happy to meet with you and your dog to determine if this service is right for you.
How do I help the Shedding? How much will it cost me?
We don't charge extra to get the hair out, this is why you came to the groomer in the first place! At Leading the Pack we customize the service to your pet's needs. Shedding breeds are washed with de-shedding shampoos and conditioners to help with the removal of excess coat. We thoroughly hand-dry every dog completely after the bath to not only make them fluffy, but to aid in the hair health and thus reduce shedding.
Do you do hair coloring?
Yes, but only on dogs! We have temporary and permanent hair color options to add onto your pet's spa services. Popular options include dying tails and ears. All dyes are chemical free and formulated for dogs.
What is your bite policy?
Our groomers are experienced in reading dog behavior but occasionally a dog will bite. We do our best to assess the situation and decide if it's best to continue grooming (with or without a muzzle at the sole discretion of the groomer) or halt services. For both the safety of the groomer and the pets we have cameras to review incidents if needed. We will charge for the amount of work completed if the pet is unable to be groomed.
What if a pet becomes injured?
We try our best to ask questions before grooming to learn about your pet's needs and avoid accidentally injuring a pet. We reserve the right to refuse to groom a pet if it appears to have a health condition that would cause him/her to be injured or stressed. We also reserve the right to refuse a groom based on a dog's behavior. In the unlikely event that a pet is injured, we will take the pet to our nearby VCA (a few blocks down the street) and provide veterinary care.
